School of Destiny

Upon our visit to Uganda, it was clear that the people needed a dramatic change and money didn’t seem to be the answer this time. We turned to our local partner in Africa - Joseph Serwadda - Founder of the Victory Child Care Project in Namugungo, Uganda and asked, “What can we do?” Joseph replied, “The only way that you are going to break the poverty cycle in this country is through education.” At that moment - The Hartman House School of Destiny - was born.

According to the Uganda Bureau of Statistics in the latest population census, over 50% of Uganda’s population is under fifteen years of age and growing at a rapid rate. The average life expectancy in Uganda is 40 years. Needless to say that's not ideal. It has been further estimated that in Uganda over 2.2 million children make up the orphan population, mainly because of the HIV/AIDS pandemic. The country cannot afford to meet the needs of one of its largest and fastest growing sectors: the children. The need for educational and vocational training in Uganda is vital. Our partner in Namugongo, Joseph Serwadda, is already housing 35 orphans whose parents have passed from the AIDS epidemic - among other reasons - and will be among the first pupils to attend the school. The Hartman House School of Destiny will be a place of safety, offering free education, giving students enough knowledge to enter the work force and break the cycle of poverty in Uganda. It is a goal of ours
to build as many public schools as possible in Uganda, and eventually, all across Africa.

Please help us break ground in Africa by donating to the School of Destiny.

When Hartman House started in 2004 we sought out the most common needs in people’s lives. In developing countries thousands of children and families go without life’s basic necessities daily. Not only are people in need outside of the U.S.A., but right here in our own backyard. To survive we need food, to progress we need education, and to live in comfort we need a home. Hartman House supplies all three. Take a look at our programs to find out what we do and how you can help!
